The lockdown has left the country in a state of chaos , especially migrant labourers . Furthermore , it poses the problem of hunger for a major chunk of india's population . These people stuck in a bizarre of the situation . Whose job is to think of the migrant , whose job is to arrange transport for them ? Who should have taken the initiative to mobilize the workers, organize them, prepared for logistics and helped them return ? The pictures of migrant workers walking on roads , railway tracks with their families stranded the whole country . The lack of will by government exacerbated issues faced by domestic workers . It does not occur to them that what has been done to them is wrong and they have a right to protest and demand for repartriation services.
Before delving into the lurching livelihood situation in india . PLFS survey states that 45 crore people were working in our country . Over half of the workers were self employed followed by casual workers ( 25 % ) and the remaining were regular or salaried . The most vulnerable are casual workers . Lockdown , loss of employment and social distancing put them in a miserable condition . They don't have food amd shelter . Also , lockdown in labour camps and dormitories can also increase the risk of contagion among migrant workers .
The failure to provide essential goods and services to the bottom 50 percent of the population could bring India to the brink of mass sufferings and social revolts .
WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE =)
In the absence of clear - cut guidelines and proper implementation plans , the implementation of all the announcements of the government appears to be allusive .
There is always inclusion and exclusion errors in the absence of proper national registry for migrants , poors and people involved in informal jobs . So , there is an urgent need for these regestries to be instituted and updated. With the help of correct information , we need to provide direct economic , health and other necessary support .
