The fourth pillar of democracy

The fourth pillar of democracy has a vibrant, vigorous, vital and vivid role to play . But , when it fails and join the hand with the powerful . Then , the narrow , core and cream of democracy become cancerous, calamitous, cataclysmic and catastrophic.

Let's talk about the elephant in the room - Indian Media . They're stuck in a toxic triangle of " viewership , ratings and revenue " . Today , reporting is not about telling the truth . It's about how to gain the T.R.P . So , they often embellish it & express it with obstention . The sacredness and sanctity of journalism at times are stinking and putrid .Indian press is proud that they achieved 140th rank in the world press. freedom index .The value and news , philosophy and perspective are slowly and steadily vanishinh and evaporating from the vocation of journalism .A perfect example will be=

" When a bunch of thieves steal a buffalo at night, first thing they do is remove bell from buffalo neck. One of the thieves runs in one direction ringing the bell and the other runs in the opposite direction with the buffalo. Itâ s dark and so all the villagers run behind the noise of the bell.After a while the thief carrying the bell throws the bell in jungle and runs away.Villagers find the bell and enter the jungle looking for the buffalo and the thief.At the other end of the village, thief runs away with buffalo. *The analogy here* isOur buffalo: Food, Shelter, Education, Jobs, Healthcare, Infrastructure, Women safety and empowerment, Covid, Inflation, Economy, Development....Buffalo Bell: SSR, Rhea, Kangana, Thackeray, Karan Johar, Taimur, Bollywood, Drugs, Sunanda Pushkar....Bell Thief: ?? "

Indian media has plummeted in the wrong direction between sense and sensationalism, chaos and civility , news and noice , balance and extremism. We've journalist who lives on lalochezia. ( Arnab )* .

Trial by court of law has been replaced by trial of embarrassment. Media is acting like jury , executive and judge . They're not making suggestive innuendos but direct allegations. This atmosphere is the biggest impediment for India's progress.

Poor people are most vulnerable. Because they're often illiterate, in chaos and facing many problems. They can't understand the propaganda run by media . They get easily trapped in the vicious propaganda of hatred. Even , anything written in WHATSAPP is gospel truth for them . This led to riots , hate crimes etc .

Illusion = )

As Jawahar Lal Nehru said in discovery of India -

" Indians lived too much in the glory of the past and feeling proud about it that they forgot to work for the future " .

We're seeing this weary illusion again . You all have seen the statements that lord ganeh went through plastic surgery and ravan used a air plane etc . We can justify living in the past at some text . But , what about living in the illusion ?

Recently, i saw a survey at India Today , in a hypothetical condition if war happens between India and China who will win ? Nearly 80 % people think we'll win the war weasily and we should make china pay . Ok , i'm not saying we'll win or not win . But , theatrics abounded with try gun trotting warrior anchors in army fatigue drumming up an atmosphere of hate and voilent jingoism.

Is this the journalism we want ? Seriously ?

Once we acknowledge the problem to look deep within . What do we want ? Do we want to be a developed nation ? A superpower? It won't come from buying some planes , assuming we're superpower, making ads or making high- pitched nationalist and chanting ' jai shree ram ' . All that is fake , stupid and senseless. It comes from low self esteem, a chronic problem with indians . We're desperate to feel validated that we're good enough.

Media is supposed to raise the voices of the marginalized. Instead it became a puppet of the government. It is astonishing that so many media houses and anchors have mortgaged their calling and their consciences to the temporary lure of wealth and power . It's our fault also that we accept these as a source of entertainment. We've embraced different cultures, faiths , languages and differences from thousands of years . We helped people of different faiths settling in the sea of india. We'll overcome this phase together .
